Birchwood Medical Practice is well-led. The practice has good leadership, management and governance that assures the delivery of high-quality person-centered leadership, supporting learning and innovation and promoting an open and fair culture.

Our organisational chart demonstrates adequately staffed departments with responsible leadership.

We have clear roles assigned to each partner and senior nurse with an able Practice Management team coordinating the functioning of the practice.

We have a Practice Vision and Mission Statement which we have displayed on notice boards around the practice for the staff and patients and on our website.

We have an effective full-time Practice Manager and full-time Deputy Practice Manager. One of whom is always onsite.

We encourage staff to feedback to ensure they are happy in their work environment, at appraisals, development events and day to day. Any positive feedback to staff via messages from patients is always sent out to the whole of the practice. We have protected training afternoon once a month and promote team building, health and well-being and learning within these sessions.

The senior partner is an experienced GP who is respected and very well liked by colleagues and staff. He leads in ensuring all senior staff are approachable and supportive team players. He visits each department every working day and checks everyone is ok and asks if anyone needs any help.

We have regular practice team meetings where all members of staff are encouraged to give their view on the running of the practice and how problems can be solved and improvements can be made. We also celebrate successes within these meetings.

We have methods for staff to report grievances, whistle blowing concerns or just a simple development idea. We have a Patient Participation Group which is active and has contributed several items to the practice by their fundraising efforts over the years.

We organise regular social events for our staff so that our relationships grow and are positive. We have a staff WhatsApp group so any important information can be shared to everyone quickly. We have long service awards for staff to celebrate their dedication and we provide flowers and gifts for staff special birthdays and send condolences if any of our staff have family bereavements.
