Important Information - Coronavirus

Until further notice the practice doors will be closed to the public entering without an appointment or invite.

The practice team will continue to work in the premises between 08.00am - 18.30pm and most patients will be communicated by telephone and video to reduce the need to leave their houses. All appointment requests will be triaged by a clinician by telephone. Patients should not attend appointments if they develop symptoms of a new continuous cough or high temperature without advising the practice before attendance.

The majority of prescriptions are now dealt with electronically and there is no need to collect in paper from the medical practice - just nominate a pharmacy to receive your approved prescription.

Please follow up to date official guidance on 111 Coronavirus website.

If you spot any symptoms which could indicate cancer, don't just sit worrying about it at home- you can still contact your GP by telephone or on-line. They will be able to advise on whether you need to get checked.  If you have an urgent appointment for a diagnostic test, or are having treatment already it is important that you attend your appointments. The team looking after you will be able to advise you how to do this, if you are in doubt.

Patients that are identified as High Risk Vulnerable should have received a letter to let them know what to do to be shielded and what support is available for them.  These patients may be undergoing cancer treatment, immunosuppressed, had a transplant, severe COPD/Asthma (admitted/steroids). If you believe you should have been on this list and have not received a letter you can check with a GP by calling the practice.

The Birchwood Medical Practice will be operating on Easter Monday, 13th April and patients will be able to get through to the medical practice by telephone.  The adjacent pharmacies will be open for limited hours.

If you suspect you have Coronavirus:

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19 to find out what to do next.  Or telephone NHS 111 if you do not have the internet.

DO NOT go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

Changes to On-line Appointment Booking ;- To mitigate the risk of potentially infected patients booking and attending at the medical practice without receiving advice to self-isolate and go through testing, we have restricted the availability of appointments online to advance booking after 14 days.   Patients should telephone the medical practice if they require an appointment within the seven days or the matter is urgent.
